There are many different Yoga styles and each emphasizes some facet of the whole. Some focus on the physical body, others on sound, or the use of visual forms. Kundalini Yoga is holistic and focuses on the whole itself because we always incorporate all facets, the sound, visualization, mantras, meditation, breath and the physical body. Kundalini Yoga is not as asana based as other styles of Yoga. In Kundalini Yoga we use more movement, mantras, meditation and pranayama. The practice always includes breathing exercises, mantras, meditation and physical yoga poses. One of the key differences is that the mantras and pranayama are often incorporated with physical poses or movements. The Kriyas (yoga sets) we practice in Kundalini Yoga usually have a certain focus. E.g. Kidneys, digestion or your magnetic field. The same goes for the meditations. There are thousands of them, some use mantras and others don’t. They focus more on the mind but they all have a certain focus as well, e.g. prosperity, healing, self-assessment, intuition etc.
This is also the reason why Kundalini Yoga is so effective and fast acting. We work on the whole and don't just emphasize one aspect. Kundalini Yoga is the Yoga of awareness. Kundalini means awareness. This awareness is already in you, but it is dormant. With Kundalini Yoga you awaken your awareness and you will be able to be your true you and reach your true potential. It teaches you how to gain physical health, such as a strong immune system, vital glands, a strong nervous system and good circulation, but also an awareness of the impact of your habits. Our habits are subconscious. And while we can't get rid of our bad habits we can substitute them with good habits. The subconscious will be trained with Kundalini Yoga to be an aid in life and not letting it control you.
Through the exercises and meditations we do in Kundalini Yoga you will learn to train your mindset to keep up, not to give up, to persevere and challenge yourself. When you practice this on the mat, new pathways in your brain will develop and you will learn to use it off the mat in your daily life.
